If you are summoned to appear as defendant in a civil lawsuit, and you fail to appear and offer a defense, a default judgment will be entered against you. If you have proper cause for failure to appear, and file a timely motion with the court, the default judgment may be vacated, or set aside, and the civil trial rescheduled.
If you do receive a default judgement, you can also expect to face the need for credit repair at some future date.
